UMASS TO HOST “THE FUTURE OF PUBLIC SERVICE” WITH STATE SENATOR JO COMERFORD AND SAMANTHA HAMILTON

The University of Massachusetts/Amherst School of Public Policy will kick off the 2019-’20 academic year by presenting “The Future of Public Service: A Conversation with MA State Senator Jo Comerford and Samantha Hamilton,” Thursday, August 29, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Old Chapel.
Comerford, who was elected in November 2018, represents the Hampshire, Franklin, and Worcester districts in the Massachusetts state senate. She chairs the Joint Committee on Public Health and is vice chair of the Joint Committee on Higher Education. Prior to taking office, she was director of the Western Massachusetts American Friends Service Committee, director of programs at The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts, executive director of the National Priorities Project, and campaign director at MoveOn.
Hamilton manages the LiveWell Springfield Coalition of the Public Health Institute of Western Massachusetts and leads the Age-Friendly City Initiative and the Transforming Community Initiative. She previously worked at Martin Luther King Jr. Family Services, most recently as director of operations, where she supported state and federal grant initiatives around gang violence, substance abuse prevention, and teen dating violence.
The discussion, which will be led by Alasdair Roberts, director of the School of Public Policy and professor of political science, is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served at 12:45 p.m. Those planning to attend the event are asked to RSVP by August 20.
