Amherst Girls cross country team won its third consecutive Division I sectional title at the Western Mass Cross Country Championships at Northfield Mountain last Saturday (11/9). Amherst placed five girls in the top 15 to beat runner-up Northampton 44-65. Pittsfield finished third with 77 points. The top three teams qualify for today’s (11/16) state championship race at Mt. Wachusett Community College with the girls Division I race beginning at 11:40. It was Amherst’s 25th sectional title of the last 31 years. Amherst girls qualified for the state championship for a record 32nd consecutive year.

Amherst was led by senior Zada Forde who finished fourth over the hilly 5k course in 20:25.26. Freshman Tamar Byl-Brann was fifth in 20:25.82. Junior Vivian Jacobs-Townsley was 10th in 21:06.45. Junior Charlotte Staudenmayer was 11th in 21:12.73. Junior Maddie Shea filled out Amherst’s top five finishing 14th in 21:51.22. Complete results can be found here.
