SANDERS IS TOP PICK OF AMHERST VOTERS

Bernie Sanders was the top pick of Amherst voters in Tuesday’s Democratic primary racking up 3222 votes among 8059 votes cast (40%) according to unofficial results posted by the Town Clerk.  Elizabeth Warren finished second with 2659 votes (33%) and Joe Biden was third with 1587 votes (20%). In the Republican primary,  Donald Trump received 93 of 149 votes cast (62%) in Amherst. Former Governor William F. Weld was runner up with 47 votes (31%).

Across the Amherst precincts, Sanders got the largest share of votes in all but two precincts (5 and 8).  Warren edged Sanders by 5 votes in precinct 5 and won handily in precinct 8 (506 to 324 with 385 votes going to Biden).   On the Reupblican side, Trump received the largest share of votes in all but Precinct 8 where he was edged by Weld 11 to 7.

Statewide
With all but two of 2173 precincts reporting (99.9%) statewide,  Joe Biden won the Massachusetts Democratic primary with 461,043 (33.5%) votes.  Bernie Sanders was second with 376.793 (26.7%) votes and Elizabeth Warren was third with 295,919 (21.5%) votes.   Biden walked away with 34 delegates to the Democratic Convention. Sanders claimed 28 delegates and Warren 18. On the Republican side, Donald Trump received 236,692 (87.7%) votes to William Weld’s 25,182 (9.3%) votes.  Trump will receive all 41 of the state’s delegates to the Republican convention.
