Amherst Regional High School’s “graduation” took place in the school parking lot on Wednesday, May 27 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Over two hundred seniors were awarded diplomas.

In a truly beautiful ceremony that extended throughout the day, graduates were handed their diplomas (while masked) and proceeded to the “stage” one by one, so family and friends could photograph them from a distance and cheer.

Celebratory music played! An audience of mask-wearers held balloons and shouted in joy for each graduate! Some graduates very briefly removed their masks to smile for a picture with their long-lost best friend. It was full of life, happy, safe, and moving! In addition to administrators, many school staff were present to show their love and support. This event was filmed and will be part of an additional virtual ceremony to honor graduates, to be broadcast on June 5, complete with virtual speeches, song, and dance.
