Two weeks ago, the Indy put out a call for ideas for reopening schools in the fall. Readers responded with detailed and thoughtful concepts which we are publishing here. The Indy has submitted these ideas to the Superintendent and School Committees.  The responses that we received can be read here:

Since this form went out, the District created a survey with some of the same questions. The Superintendent reported that more than 700 responses have been submitted already. This shows the strong interest in the community in being involved in devising solutions for the fall.

Amherst is a town of educators and parents and while the schools will need to follow the guidance of the CDC and the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), there is room for localized solutions.

Without a doubt, school will look very different in the fall of 2020. It will require a level of adaptability that will undoubtedly place a heavier burden on some. The Indy hopes the community can come together to devise solutions that can be as equitable as possible, especially supporting those families that need it most.
