The Jones Library Trustees will hold a Zoom “Library Chat” on Thursday, August 20th from 7:00 to 8:00 PM. This is the second session in a new series designed to inform the public about the library’s proposed renovation/expansion project which will need Town Council approval for funding.

The following public library directors will share their experiences about recently completed building projects through the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners grant program:  Antonia Golinski-Foisy (West Springfield), John Rodio (South Hadley) and Jean Shaughnessy (Athol).

The Jones is second on the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners waiting list for a $13.8 million grant toward a total project of $35.8 million. The Town will have to fund up to $22 million of the remaining costs not including debt service, cost overrides or sustainability features.

This proposal includes demolishing the entire 1993 addition of 17,800 feet, replacing that square footage and adding an additional 17,000 sq. ft. for a total of over 35,000 sq. ft. of new construction. The enlarged library will be 65,000 sq. ft.
