Gov. Charlie Baker announced on Thursday (8/20) that the state is forming a mobile  rapid response COVID-19 testing unit to respond to schools with suspected clusters of coronavirus cases.  Baker said that the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and Department of Public Health will soon release guidance detailing how the program will function. The unit, which is expected to be in operation by September 1,  will produce test results in 15 minutes and will be dispatched to schools where multiple students and staffers have tested positive.

Baker has been suggesting that it is safe for many of the state’s school districts to reopen.  He also called attention to the state’s Stop The Spread Program which provides free testing for communities that are still struggling with the virus.
