Cultural District Seeks Artists To Help Transform Downtown Amherst Into Outdoor Art Gallery This Summer
Source: Amherst Center Cultural District
The Amherst Center Cultural District (ACCD) is transforming downtown Amherst into an art gallery once more. Artists are invited to showcase their works of art throughout the town center in windows on streets, walkways, and municipal areas in downtown Amherst. Installations will be on view for 3 months, from June through Labor Day Weekend. There is no fee to apply.
Businesses, property owners and property managers will host artists in their windows to help ACCD create a dynamic showcase of the work of area artists while many galleries and museums remain closed. Display areas vary in size and shape. ACCD can provide easels, blocks, and tension rods to help support art displays, but artists are also welcome to provide their own installation materials. The ACCD aims to include work from as many artists as possible, as long as display space is available.
ACCD is printing maps for the event and will have digital maps available online. Each window will feature an artist’s statement and a QR code to link to more information on their work and information on the culture of the business by sharing stories of how the arts connect to the owners and workers. Ths exhibit and endeavor is funded in part by a grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council as a creative way to help revitalize cultural and commercial centers struggling through the impacts of limitations caused by the pandemic.
