Mobilizing Community Driven Approaches To Food Security: A Virtual Conversation On April 29
Source: Amherst Mobile Market
The public is invited to join MA Representative Mindy Domb and representatives from the Amherst Mobile Market, Common Share Food Co-op and Western MA Regenerative Food Network on April 29 to discuss community driven approaches to food security. The conversation will be streamed on Zoom and Facebook. The program includes:
- Screening of the mini-documentary Amherst Mobile Market, Cultivating Change
- Hearing from resident leaders about how they are working to increase food security in their own communities
- Learning how to get involved with community driven approaches to food security in Amherst
Did you know that 97% of Amherst residents live in a USDA designated food desert? And that one in four Amherst residents is designated low income and lives more than a mile from a supermarket?

Spanish translation will be provided on Zoom.
What a terrific forum and I hope many will participate. As someone working with The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts to end food insecurity throughout the four counties of Western Mass, it is clear that dozens of local partnerships are needed to solve this issue definitively.
Rep. Domb and the Amherst organizations participating in this forum should be commended for their tireless efforts to provide a local answer.
Lastly, I would just like to offer a friendly amendment to the wording in the following bullet point…
“Hearing from resident leaders about how they are working to increase food insecurity in their own communities…” I believe the intention is actually to decrease food insecurity…
Thank you,
