Citing a surge in COVID-19 breakthrough cases and the increased risk to public safety, the UMass Health Promotion Center has announced that student tailgating activities have been canceled at UMass Amherst.

“The decision has been made to limit tailgating at this Saturday’s home football game to only those with valid game-day parking passes,” Health Promotion Center Co-Directors Ann Becker and Jeffery Hescock, said in an email to the campus community.  “Campus organized, student game-day activities in lot 11, next to the stadium, have been cancelled for Saturday’s game to minimize the density of students gathering prior to kick-off.”

UMass reported nearly 150 cases this week, with most occurring among vaccinated students living off-campus.  The latest COVID-19 numbers for the campus can be found on the UMass COVID-19 dashboard
