The Town of Amherst is seeking a dynamic leader to develop, implement, and monitor a strategic plan that will advance a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture throughout the Town. The Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is a newly developed department, created to ensure alignment between town activities and the town’s commitment to eradicating the effects of systemic racism in Town government and Town-affiliated organizations. The director will review and make recommendations to revise policies, procedures, bylaws, values, goals, and missions to foster an unbiased and inclusive environment that is free of discrimination, harassment, and negative stereotyping toward any person or group.

The successful candidate will have the skills to supervise and lead a team, have experience implementing equity, diversity, and inclusion, recognize cultural values and norms of various communities, such as BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, immigrant, and disability communities, among others, and have a track record of advocating for human rights?
THE DEI DIRECTOR WILL:
• Build and sustain an unbiased environment that is free of discrimination, harassment, and negative stereotyping
• Review policies, procedures, bylaws, values, goals
• Be responsible for the development of DEI programs
• Serve as the Human Rights Director
