After a two-year hiatus due to the coronavirus, Gallery A3 is excited to announce its 7th Annual Juried Show, to be held August 5-27, 2022. The opening reception will be on Thursday, August 4, from 5-8 p.m. and an Art Forum is scheduled for Thursday, August 18, at 7:30 p.m. The juror for this year’s exhibition is Daniel Kojo Schrade, professor of art at Hampshire College.

Gallery A3’s 7th Annual Juried Show offers local and regional artists an opportunity to exhibit their work in an active downtown gallery and, in turn, gives the community a chance to discover artists who may be living just across town or several towns (or states) distant.

A cooperative, contemporary fine arts gallery in downtown Amherst, Gallery A3 is located at 28 Main Street in in the Amherst Cinema Complex.  Current members include painters, sculptors, photographers, printmakers, and mixed media artists. During its 20-year history, A3 has been home to over 60 artists, mounting monthly exhibits and offering cultural events and community collaborations. The Gallery’s opening receptions take place on the first Thursday of every month; Art Forums, free and open to the public, are scheduled on the third Thursday.

Gallery A3 is located at 28 Amity Street 1D in Amherst. Summer gallery hours are Thursday-Sunday, 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Masks and social distancing are required. More information.


Juror Biography

Daniel Kojo Schrade

Daniel Kojo Schrade, visual artist and professor of art at Hampshire College, studied art in Germany and Spain. His work includes repeated motifs such as the “Afronaut” figure and the cycle entitled “Brother Beethoven”. 

Schrade combines performance, installation, and abstract expressive painting strategies with textual elements and personal iconographies in his pieces. His paintings and installations have been presented internationally including the Museo de Arte Contemporaneo, Oaxaca (Mexico), Artist Alliance Accra (Ghana), Haus der Kunst Munich, Iwalewa Haus University Bayreuth (Germany), the Indonesian National Gallery (Jakarta), and the Museum of Modern Art Warsaw (Poland). Amongst others, he was invited to lecture about his work at Goldsmiths University London, Kwame Nkrumah University Ghana, Georgetown University Washington, DC, and the University of California Los Angeles. Daniel Kojo Schrade holds an M.F.A. from the Academy of Fine Arts, Munich, Germany. His work is represented in various international art collections.
