EVERY SUNDAY through OCTOBER 2Early Bird. Early Birding at the Notch Visitors Center. 1500 West Street. 9:00-9:30 a.m. Join a Park Interpreter on a fun beginner bird stroll. Learn about birds, their behaviors, their needs and habitats. Listen, watch, stroll, sketch or journal on this interactive program. We will do a moderate, 1/2 mile hike around the visitor center and down a short trail. More Information.

THROUGH SATURDAY AUGUST 27: Gallery A3’s Seventh Annual Juried Art Show. 28 Main Street in in the Amherst Cinema Complex. Gallery hours are Thursday-Sunday, 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Masks and social distancing are requiredGallery A3’s Seventh Annual Juried Show offers local and regional artists an opportunity to exhibit their work in an active downtown gallery and, in turn, gives the community a chance to discover artists who may be living just across town or several towns (or states) distant.
A cooperative, contemporary fine arts gallery in downtown Amherst. Current members include painters, sculptors, photographers, printmakers, and mixed media artists. An Art Forum is scheduled for Thursday, August 18, at 7:30 p.m. The juror for this year’s exhibition is Daniel Kojo Schrade, professor of art at Hampshire College. More information.

THROUGH SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 1Exhibit: Daniel Ellsberg, A Life Of Truth. The UMass Amherst Libraries host “Daniel Ellsberg: A Life in Truth,” a physical and digital exhibit drawing from activist and truth teller Daniel Ellsberg’s vast collection of documents, photographs, and artifacts. The Robert S. Cox Special Collections and University Archives Research Center acquired the collection in 2019.The exhibit is located in two locations in the W. E. B. Du Bois Library until September 2022. It begins on Floor 25 in theReading Room of the Robert S. Cox Special Collections and University Archives Research Center (open M-F 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m.) and continues on the Lower Level in the Learning Commons (accessible whenever the Library is open). More Information.

SATURDAY AUGUST 27- SUNDAY AUGUST 29: ANNUAL ROTARY TOWN FAIR. Town Common. Hours are 3 p.m. – 10 p.m on Friday, 8/26, 1p.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday 8/27 and 1.p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday 8/29. The event includes a midway of rides games and foods and beverages. Proceeds from the event support the work of the Amherst Rotary Club. The Amherst Rotary has been sponsoring the fair for at least fifty years.

SATURDAY AUGUST 27: MOTHERS OUT FRONT, HOME SWEET HOME CLIMATE FESTIVAL: Hitchcock Center, 845, West Street. 1:30-5:30 p.m. A fun festival of immersive theater and art about climate solutions. Spend an afternoon enjoying performances, giant puppet parades, and creative activities by local artist/activists. Beth Fairservis of MuZen, Anna Sobel of Talking Hands Theatre, the Rainbow Players, and more. Hosted by Ezzell Floranina of Empowerment Through the Arts.  More Information.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 27: STRINGS AT THE STRONG. Amherst History Museum, 67 Amity Street.  2 p.m. The Amherst History Museum’s free summer concert series continues with Conway Fine Arts. The series is made possible with a grant from the Amherst Cultural Council and the generous sponsorship of Stamell Stringed Instruments. People are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on.

SUNDAY August 28:SUNDAY AUGUST 28: AMHERST DEMOCRATIC COMMITTEE PICNIC AND POTLUCK. With Sen Jo Comerford, Rep Mindy Domb, and Sheriff and Governors Council Candidates

28 Amity Street 1D. A new exhibit,  Then and Now, by Ron Maggio and Rochelle Schicoff. FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 2. Annual Campus/Community Breakfast. UMass Amherst and the Amherst Area Chamber of Commerce will host the annual Community Breakfast on Friday, Sept. 2 from 7:30 to 9 a.m. in the Student Union Ballroom. Free parking will be available in the Campus Center Garage.  The breakfast will be catered by the award-winning UMass Dining and is an opportunity to re-connect with community and campus leaders, welcome newcomers and see old friends, as we kick off a new academic year in the Amherst area. Tickets are $10.00 in advance at https://umasshospitality.com/registration or $12 at the door. Contact the Office of External Relations and University Events at 413-577-1101 or events@umass.edu with questions or special requests.

The State Primary is on Tuesday, September 6th 2022. Polls will be open on this day from 7:00 AM – 8:00 PM. In-person early voting will also be available at Amherst Town Hall. See above for details.  More Information here and here.

SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 11: Harvest Picnic And Book Launch. A beneft for The Cancer Connection. QuonQuont Farm, 9 North Street, Whatley, MA. 11 a.m – 2 p.m. Local Poets will read selected poems. Lunch provided by Lone Wolf catering. Children Welcome Tix and more information.

MONDAY SEPTEMBER 12: Amherst Neighbors Member Appreciation Picnic. Mill River Recreation Area, Mill River Pavilion, 95 Montague Rd., North Amherst. 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. This event was rescheduled from July 18. Amherst Neighbors, providing neighbor to neighbor support for aging well in the Amherst-Pelham communities, is holding its first in-person, outdoor event. Join us for a festive picnic, good food, fun and games, and a chance to meet and celebrate our members, volunteers, and potential members.  Some food foundations and beverages will be provided. SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 24: Annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day. Preregistration required! Fort River Elementary School (70 South East Street, Amherst). All Amherst, Pelham, Shutesbury and Hadley residents may participate.  Advance registration prior to   is required.  Participation is limited; people are encouraged to register early to ensure an appointment time. Pre-register on-line by visiting www.amherstma.gov/recycling.   For those without computer access, paper registration forms will be available at the Amherst Transfer Station. Registrants will receive an assigned appointment window between 9am and 12pm a few days prior to the event.

SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 25: Big Brothers and Big Sisters Of Hampshire County Three Ring Ruckus. Lia Toyota, 280 King Street, Northampton. 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Expect LIVE MUSIC! FOOD TRUCKS! & FANTASTICAL FAMILY ENTERTAINMENT! This community event brings together Pioneer Valley’s best home vendors highlighting their offerings and services, family entertainment featuring Pioneer Valley Jump Rope Team, juggling from VillageWise, a corn shucking contest, games, a bubble zone for kids, bike safety rodeo for kids ( bring your tike’s bike), pumpkin painting, chalk art, and so much more. Live music by Rosie Porter & The Neon Moons! Local Burgy and Ginger Love Café food trucks, seasonal inspired snacks. You’ll want to have cash on hand for the 3 types of raffles.
