Citizens For Juvenile Justice, a Boston based youth-justice organization, will offer a “Know Your Rights” training on Sunday October 9 from 3-5 p.m. both on Zoom and at New Africa House on the UMass Campus.  The aim of the training is to teach residents exactly what their rights are in encounters with law enforcement and will be led by a lawyer specializing in youth criminal justice.  The training will include time for questions from participants.

There were widespread calls for such a training following a July 5, 2022 incident where Amherst Police harassed a group of primarily BIPOC youth and told them that they did not have any rights because they were not of age.

The event will be held both on Zoom or in-person.  Register using the QR code below.

The event is co-sponsored by Sunrise Amherst, The Progressive Coaltition For Amherst, The Amherst Community Safety and Social Justice Committee, People Of Color United (at Amherst Regional High School), and Defund 413.
