The public is invited to the first South Asian Fall Festival in Amherst on Saturday, November 5 from 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Society of Amherst, 121 South Pleasant Street.
While Diwali is one of the main holidays celebrated in the Indian subcontinent, there are many other holidays celebrated by South Asians during this season including Bandi Chhor Diwas (a Sikh holiday), Twin holy birthdays of Báb and Bahá’u’lláh (a Bahá’í holiday), and Ill Full Moon Poya (celebrated in Srilanka).
Join the festivities that will include South Asian dance, music, poetry, art, henna, and snacks followed by a Bollywood dance party with a live DJ, Vidhi Salla, who will teach a few Bollywood moves and host a popup store for Asian handicrafts.
Get to meet some of your town councilors, town staff, community responders, and make new friends!
