UMass to Host Performances by Wind Faculty, Guest Saxophonists

Concerts Will Feature ‘Bandwidth’ Faculty Ensemble On February 26

In late February, the University of Massachusetts Amherst Department of Music and Dance will host concerts by their wind faculty and guest performers. All three concerts listed below will take place in Bezanson Recital Hall, and all are free and open to the public.

The Bandwidth Chamber Ensemble, comprised of members of the wind faculty, will present a concert of classical chamber works on Sunday, February 26 at 3 p.m. The program will include Gounod’s Petite Symphonie, along with works by Ian Clarke, Charles Koechlinand Jorge Montilla. The faculty members taking part in the performance include Cobus du Toit, flute; Fredric Cohen, oboe; Romie de Guise-Langlois, clarinet; Zach Robarge, saxophone; Joshua Michal, horn; and Rémy Taghavi, bassoon. The concert will also be streamed to the department’s YouTube channel, youtube.com/umassmusicdance.

The month will also include two guest artist concerts taking place in honor of the 40th anniversary of the New England Saxophone Symposium, which is hosted by the department each spring. On Thursday, February 16 at 7:30 p.m., Timothy McAllister (saxophone) & Liz Ames (piano) will perform selections from their 2022 album, Project Encore Vol. 1 , which features music by Jolley, Myers, Schubring, Cutler, Bayolo, and others.

On Tuesday, February 28 at 7:30 p.m., saxophonist Nicolas Prost and pianist Sébastien Paindestre will present a program titled”Border Jazz” that will include the premiere of Sherwood Sonata by the legendary jazz composer Wayne Shorter. The concert will also feature music by  Portal, Potter, Carter, Le, Pedron and Calmel.

Bezanson Recital Hall is located in the Bromery Center for the Arts, 151 Presidents Dr., Amherst, MA.
