New Exhibit At The Burnett Gallery In April: Retrospective -The Art Of Bernice Massé Rosenthal
Source: Jones Library
Bernice Massé Rosenthal’s work over a span of five decades will be on exhibit at the Burnett Gallery in the Jones Library during library hours at the Jones at 43 Amity Street, from April 2 through April 29. The opening reception will be on Sunday, April 2, from 2:00 until 4:30 pm.
Bernice was lost to Covid in early 2022, so this will be posthumous show mounted by her husband, Jon Rosenhal, and her son, Alexander. They have selected work evolving from her student days in stone and painting to the collage and wood assemblages for which she is known.
Bernice’s maxim was Transforming Discard into Beauty and Meaning. As an inveterate recycler, she found objects that were discarded and presumed useless or offcuts from woodworking projects that became her wood assemblages. Whimsy is to be found along with the serious. Her approach to art was imaginative in concept, deliberate in process, skilled in technique and meticulous in execution.
