Jennifer Moyston, Amherst’s Assistant Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion was recently recognized for her achievements at an event held at the Massachusetts State House organized by the Massachusetts Black and Latino Legislative Caucus.
Moyston was named as the 2023 nominee from the 3rd Hampshire District as a Black Excellence on the Hill Honoree. She was nominated by Representative Mindy Domb for her extraordinary contributions to the Amherst community. From food security to youth football, as a town employee and community volunteer, she has fostered civic engagement and belonging.
Moyston is also one of three Community Participation Officer’s for the Town of Amherst. She serves as the Vice President of the Amherst Survival Center’s Board of Directors, Co-Chair of the Equity Task Force for the Amherst Area Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the Community Action for Pioneer Valley Board of Directors. Formerly the Pantry Coordinator for the Amherst Survival Center, she has also volunteered her time coaching youth football, basketball, and lacrosse.
Representative Mindy Domb said, “This year, I was glad to nominate Amherst resident and town employee, Jennifer Moyston for recognition by the Massachusetts Black and Latino Legislative Caucus’s 2023 Black Excellence on the Hill honor. Jennifer is a champion of civic engagement, creating a welcoming community, and meeting our neighbors’ basic needs. I congratulate Jennifer and thank her for all she has done to make Amherst a better place.”
Town Manager Paul Bockelman said, “Jennifer embodies everything that makes Amherst such a special place. She is all about building community, giving voice to those who aren’t often heard, and ensuring access. I really love how she is able to contribute to the town professionally and, at the same time, is such a solid member of the community as a resident who grew up in Amherst. We are fortunate to have Jen as an employee of the Town and as a community member. She makes us all better.”
Jennifer Moyston added, “As a long-time Amherst community member, I gain a holistic view that centers the voices of those who are disempowered to ensure their voices are heard, represented, and empower them to become part of the change process. I am honored to be recognized by the Black and Latino Legislative Caucus for my contributions.”
Jennifer attended a recognition ceremony at the Massachusetts State House on Friday, April 14, alongside family, several Amherst town councilors, other fellow nominees, and elected officials. She was presented with an official congratulations and citation from Representative Mindy Domb on behalf of the Massachusetts House of Representatives the following week during a visit to Amherst Town Hall by the Representative.
