State Champions!  Girls Middle School Track Tops 38-Team Field

The Amherst Regional Middle School girls track team triumphed over a field of 38 teams at the Division 3 Massachusetts State Middle School Track Championships at Gardner High School on June 10.  A total of 80 schools participated across the Girls’ and Boys’ competition.

Amherst girls finished with 46 points, defeating runner-up Innovation Academy Charter School of Tyngsboro, which scored 40.5 points. Amherst athletes finished in the top three in several events, many of them set personal bests, and three school records were broken.  Complete results can be found here.

The Amherst boys’ team finished 11th with 19 points.  Catholic Memorial School of West Roxbury won the boys’ championship with 45 points.

Events where Amherst middle schoolers placed in the top 3:

Girls: 100 meter (2nd place – Ololara Baptiste, 13.02), 400 meter (1st place – Ella Austin, 1:01.52), 4×800 meter (1st place – Ella Austin, Minjoo Serhant, Maeve Cunningham, Coral Pope, 10:51.95), 4×100 meter (2nd place – C. Fortin, E. Hahn, K. Brissett, J. Albo, 56.3)

Boys: 1 mile (2nd place – Calvin Miller, 4:46.53), 4×400 meter (1st place – R.J. Conyers, Wes Dunford, Peter Nedeau, Calvin. Miller 4:02.50).

Amherst athletes set school records in the following events:

The girls’ 4×800 relay team of Ella Austin, Minjoo Serhant, Maeve Cunningham, Coral Pope captured the state title and set a school record of 10:51.95.

Ella Austin, won the girls’ 400 meters, and set a new school record with a time of 1:01.52.

The  boys’ 4×400-meter relay team of  R.J. Conyers, Wes Dunford, Peter Nedeau, Calvin. Miller set a new school mark and captured a state title with a time 4:02.50.
