Celebrate Sustainable Agriculture at FUTURA Coffee Roasters’ Grand Opening

The public is invited to enjoy free coffee tastings and Latin music and dancing as FUTURA Coffee Roasters celebrates their Grand Opening in The Mill District on Saturday December 9 between 11 a.m. and 1p.m. at 73 Cowls Road in North Amherst. The Amherst Area Chamber of Commerce will be hosting the official ribbon cutting scheduled for noon. The Grand Opening event will feature a tasting, inviting coffee enthusiasts to savor the rich and award-winning coffees that define FUTURA’s artisanal offerings – including free lattes.

FUTURA is a specialty coffee roaster founded in Portland, Oregon in 2022. The brand’s purpose, “Souls in a mission for soil regeneration,” is to inspire people and business partners to make daily choices that count for soil regeneration within the coffee industry and among other agriculture-based products. The new coffee shop is a 1700 square foot space and will feature the same distinctive décor of its two other North American restaurants, both in Oregon.  

In addition to a diverse range of specialty coffees, FUTURA North Amherst offers a menu of light pastries, bagels, and sandwiches. Bagged coffees are available for those who wish to enjoy Futura at home. 

Colombian founding partners Sebastian Villamizar and Felipe Sardi represent Equation Coffee exporters and Libertario Coffee Roasters. The Mill District, North Amherst, location is their first on the east coast of the United States. The mission-based business will support regenerative agriculture projects in both South America and locally. 

FUTURA embraces a mission-oriented business strategy, that invites coffee lovers to connect to supporting soil regeneration along the specialty coffee value chain. FUTURA is committed to reinvesting 3% of its total sales in small-scale farmers and local gardeners in Colombia to aid their transition to regenerative agriculture. 

“The destiny of tomorrow is decided by our actions today,” said Villamizar. “At FUTURA we are doers, and our contributions to local sustainable agriculture start now.” 

Sardi explained, “We are taking five actions to create a new reality for our planet:” 

  1. We’ve created a Soil Regeneration Fund that supports South American and local sustainable agriculture 
  2. We sell only regenerative agriculture coffee 
  3. Our suppliers share our purpose 
  4. We use compostable coffee bags 
  5. We create partnerships to achieve a net positive future.”
