Town Council Meeting on February 26 to Be Rescheduled to Accommodate All Who Wish to Attend.

The Town was informed today (2/23) that more than 80 people plan to attend the Amherst Town Council meeting on Monday, February 26, 2024 in person. This exceeds the capacity of the Town Room at Town Hall and requires that the meeting be rescheduled to a location that can accommodate all who wish to attend.
At this time, we are hoping to reschedule the meeting for Monday, March 4, 2024 and are confirming the availability of a suitable space with the School Department. Information about the time, date, and place of the rescheduled meeting will be provided as soon as it is available.
I don’t understand why the entire Town Council meeting was canceled for tomorrow night. There were many other items on the agenda that require the attention of the Town Council, and about which residents are concerned. Surely that work could/should have still taken place as scheduled. It seems highly unlikely that these other items will be able to be addressed during a meeting that has been postponed in order to accommodate more participants.
This might be a first for me: I agree with Ms. Kopicki. It’s yet another indication of a town with both voters and leaders that are simply bored by the ordinary decision-making that is necessary to run Anytown USA. We prefer controversy to addressing the mundane details that keep town and school services adequately funded and running on course. So, when these global causes come up that require town leaders to pose and strut as “the conscience of the community”, presuming to speak for residents like me (as if I can’t), we tend to lose our minds…..and then postpone meetings.
