The Amherst Pelham Education Association marched through town on March 12 in support of a NO vote on the proposed school budget. The march was held just prior to the Regional School Committee meeting, where a budget containing $1.7 million in cuts was up for a vote. The march began at Amherst Regional High School and proceeded to Town Hall, Amherst College (which is being asked to help support the Amherst Public Schools), and the Jones Library (for which the town recently approved an additional $10 million in borrowing for a renovation/expansion project).

At their meeting following the march, the RSC decided to reject the austerity budget requiring $1.7 million in cuts and voted instead for a larger budget where all proposed cuts for student-facing staff were restored. The RSC and the member towns now face the challenge of finding the funds to support the larger budget.
