Song & Story Swap with Folksinger Jennie McAvoy
The Pioneer Valley Folklore Society’s monthly Song & Story Swap, now in its twenty-seventh year, will feature folksinger Jennie McAvoy on Saturday April 6 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at First Church, 165 Main Street in Amherst. Parking is available in the lot behind the church.
Trained as a mezzo-soprano, McAvoy is a polished traditional ballad singer whose rock-solid voice is deftly complemented by superb acoustic guitar fingerpicking. She is a discriminating song collector with a repertoire that spans centuries. Eleven of her favorites may be heard on her CD, “So Long on
the Flood,” on which she is backed up by guitar master, Brooks Williams.
McAvoy was born in New York City, raised in the Hudson River Valley, and now makes South Deerfield, Massachusetts, her home.
