As you are likely aware, securing a health care provider who is currently accepting new patients can be a daunting task.  I am pleased to inform you that the Musante Health Center, located in downtown Amherst at the Bangs Community Center, is actively welcoming new patients.  It is one of the town’s hidden gems.

The Musante Health Center operates under the umbrella of the Hilltown Community Health Center’s (HCHC) network of health care sites. HCHC is a non-profit organization.

The Center’s staff provides a person-centered, holistic approach to well being by addressing both physical and mental health needs. Moreover, the staff recognizes the importance of the social determinants of health, including issues such as food security and housing stability.

Here are some key features of the Musante Health Center:

1. Medical Department:

  • A dedicated team of physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other medical professionals offers preventive, acute, and chronic care for patients of all ages.
  • Services include routine physicals, camp or sports physicals for youngsters, well-child exams, immunizations, skin evaluations, and gynecological services.

2. Oral Health/Dental Department:

  • Comprehensive oral and dental services cater to patients from children as young as 1 year old to seniors.
  • Offerings encompass cleanings, x-rays, fillings, crowns, bridges, root canals, extractions, and partial or complete dentures.

3. Eye Care Department:

  • The center provides complete eye exams, even for children as young as 6 months.
  • Urgent eye care and diabetic eye exams are also available.

4. Behavioral Health Department:

  • Licensed staff assist with anxiety, depression, stress, grief, addictions, and other mental health concerns.

In addition to these clinical services, the Musante Health Center offers vital community programs:

  • Health Access/Navigator Program:
    • Health Navigator staff, including a SHINE counselor (Serving the Health Insurance Needs of Everyone), guide individuals and families through qualifying state or federal insurance programs.
    • Navigators simplify complex health insurance options and provide personalized guidance.
  • Health Wise:

A nutritionist and Community Health Workers support those managing chronic conditions or seeking proactive health management.

  • Social Services:

Staff assists with accessing fuel assistance, housing referrals, adult education programs, job readiness initiatives, and more.

  • Safety at Home:
    • This program supports victims/survivors of sexual and domestic violence.
    • Domestic and sexual violence victim advocacy and safety planning are available through confidential consultations and referrals.

It is critical for community members to be aware of these invaluable health services.  Note: the Musante Health Center is NOT a drop-in clinic or a medi-quick urgent care center.  Instead, it provides comprehensive care to individuals and families.  It is open to ALL regardless of their ability to pay or health insurance status.   No one is denied services due to race, color, sex, national origin, immigration status, disability, religion, age or sexual orientation.
