Philip Avila Named New Assistant Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Town Manager Paul Bockelman announced in his July 15 Town Manager Report that former Amherst Human Rights Commission co-chair Philip Avila will be the new Assistant Director of the town’s office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). Avila will begin his duties on August 5.

Avila is currently a grant writer with The Priority Center in Irvine California where he has worked since November of 2023. Prior to that he worked from 2020-2023 at the Amherst Survial Center as a community meals coordinator. He was also a member of the town’s Community Safety and Social Justice Committee in 2022 and 2023.
