Town Will Host Community Safety Day on August 17

The Town of Amherst will host the third annual Community Safety Day on Saturday August 17, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Mill River Recreation Area, 95 Montague Road. The event is organized by the Amherst Senior Center and Public Safety Departments. The goal of this event is to highlight how public safety and other relevant departments work together to support community safety for all residents of all ages.  

This free event will feature simulations, services, and activities related to community and public safety including: 

  • Touch-a-truck with public safety vehicles 
  • Jaws of Life presentation 
  • K9 demonstration 
  • Fire safety trailer 
  • Bike safety 
  • Scam prevention 
  • Car seat inspections 
  • Tick and mosquito bite lab 
  • Comfort dogs and horses 
  • Information booths 
  • Holyoke Hummus food truck  
  • Face painting, balloon twisting, and music! 

    This family friendly event is free and open to all! There will be opportunities to meet members of:
  • Amherst Senior Services 
  • Amherst CRESS Department – Community Responders for Equity, Safety, and Service 
  • Amherst Police Department 
  • Amherst Fire Department 
  • Amherst Department of Public Health 
  • University of Massachusetts Amherst Police Department 
  • Amherst College Police Department 
  • Hampshire County Sheriff’s Office 
  • Northwestern District Attorney’s Office 
  • Greenfield Savings Bank discussing scam prevention
