Amherst General Election Reminders

General Election on November 5
The General Election is on Tuesday, November 5, 2024. Voters must be registered to vote in Amherst and have the options to vote-by-mail, vote absentee, vote early in-person, or vote on election day. See below for details.
Voter Registration
- Check your voter status here: www.sec.state.ma.us/VoterRegistrationSearch/MyVoterRegStatus.aspx
- The deadline to register to vote or make changes is Saturday, October 26 by 5 p.m. The Town Clerk’s Office at Town Hall will be open from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. on this day.
- You may also be able to register to vote online at RegisterToVoteMA.com
Vote-By-Mail
- The Secretary of State mailed every registered voter a vote by mail application postcard. If you haven’t already applied, you can do so online at MailMyBallotMA.com
- The deadline to submit an application is Tuesday, October 29 by 5 p.m.
- Return your ballot by mail, in person to the Town Clerk’s Office, or drop it in the election drop box (located outside the Main St. entrance of Town Hall).
- Ballots must be received by the close of polls or 8 p.m. on Election Day in order to be counted.

Vote Absentee
Absentee ballots are now available in the Town Clerk’s office. A voter may apply for an absentee ballot if unable to vote at their polling place on the day of the election due to: 1) absence from Amherst during the hours in which the polls are open, 2) physical disability which prevents going to the polling place, or the inability to stand in line for long periods of time, or 3) religious belief.
Applications for a mailed absentee ballot must be made in writing and must include the voter’s name, voting address, voting precinct, the address to which the ballot should be mailed, contact information (phone number or email address), and the voter’s signature.
- The deadline to apply for an absentee ballot by mail is Tuesday, October 29, 2024 by 5:00 p.m.
- The deadline to vote an absentee ballot in person at the Town Clerk’s Office is Monday, November 4, 2024 by 12:00 noon.
- Town Clerk office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
In-Person Early Voting
In-person early voting will be available from Saturday, October 19 through Friday, November 1 in the First Floor Meeting Room of Town Hall. Times are as follows:
- Saturday, October 19: 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Monday, October 21: 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Tuesday, October 22: 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Wednesday, October 23: 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Thursday, October 24: 8:00 am to 4:30 pm
- Friday, October 25: 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Saturday, October 26: 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
- Monday, October 28: 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Tuesday, October 29: 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Wednesday, October 30: 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Thursday, October 31: 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Friday, November 1: 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Election Day Voting
- Polls will be open from 7 a.m. – 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 5.
- Find your polling location at WhereDoIVoteMA.com
- Attention Precinct 1-A Voters – Your polling location has moved to the North Amherst Library, 8 Montague Rd.
- Any voter who has returned a vote-by-mail ballot accepted by the local election Office cannot vote on Election Day.
Important Deadlines
- Last day to register to vote: Saturday, October 26 (5 p.m. in-person)
- Last day to apply for a mail-in ballot: Tuesday, October 29 (5 p.m. in-person)
- Deadline to return main-in ballot: Tuesday, November 5 by 8 p.m. at Town Clerk’s Office or Ballot Drop Box (Main St. entrance of Town Hall)
