How Did Amherst Vote in November Election?

Kamala Harris and Tim Walz received 87% of the votes cast in Amherst (8,939 votes) in Tuesday’s (11/5) presidential election while Donald Trump and J.D. Vance received 8% of the local vote (862 votes). Nationally, Trump won both the electoral college (295-226 with two states, Arizona and Nevada yet to be determined as of this writing) and the popular vote with an unofficial tally of 50.7 percent.

Seventy per cent (10,315) of the town’s 14,704 registered voters cast ballots.

Elizabeth Warren’s successful bid for a third term in the Senate received strong support in Amherst. Warren received 88% (9,056 votes) of Amherst’s vote, while challenger John Deaton received 10% (1,046 votes).

Representative Jim McGovern’s bid for re-election also received strong support in Amherst, capturing 87% of the local vote (8,995) while challenger Cornelius Shea garnered 8% of the vote (863).

All five ballot measures were supported by Amherst voters, although Measure 4 (legalizing certain psychedelic substances) and Measure 5 (raising the minimum wage for tipped workers) did not pass state-wide. Measure 1 (allow state auditor to audit the legislature) received 60% of the Amherst vote. Measure 2 (discontinue use of MCAS test as graduation requirement) received 66% of the local vote. Measure 3 (unionization for gig drivers) received 72% of the local vote. Measure 4 (legalize some psychedelic substances) received 53% of the Amherst vote and Measure 5 (minimum wage for tipped workers) received 52% of the Amherst vote.
