The ice shapes formed are manifold, depending on both the global ambient conditions (like stream geometry and geology, vegetation in or near the stream…) and on the nanoscopic features (like molecular structure of water, its dissolved gases, minerals…), but when I first saw these beautiful images, I also wondered about the role of each photographer’s “eye” (aesthetic sensibility) in what we see here.

    Here’s thought experiment to test this: if these 10 images were printed on a deck of cards and the deck were shuffle, would we be able to distinguish the AB cards from the JR cards?

    Ommmmmmmmmmmmmmm….
