Melissa Zawadzki, Amherst’s Finance Director, and Hayley Bolton, Amherst’s Director of Senior Services, are stepping down from their positions.
Zawadzki Returns to UMass
Zawadzki will return to UMass, where she will assume the position of Director of Information Technology Finance, and Facilities. She had previously served as the Senior Director of Human Resources at UMass Auxiliary Enterprises prior to her appointment as Town Finance Director in May of 2024. Zawadzki indicated that she would transition into her new position. Town Manager Paul Bockelman said that she would continue to “assist the town to develop our budget and review the budget with the Finance Committee.”
Zawadzki said, “I have truly valued my time in this role; the experience has been both fulfilling and intellectually stimulating. I am grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with dedicated colleagues and engaged community members.”
Bolton Becomes Shutesbury Town Administrator
Bolton will assume the duties of town administrator in Shutesbury in April. She replaces Becky Torres, who held that position for 15 years. Bolton has directed Amherst’s senior services since November of 2021 and previously served as director of the Senior Center of the Town of Bernardston.
Bolton was one of two finalists for the Shutesbury position. The Shutesbury Select Board, in choosing Bolton, highlighted her strategies for building trust with department heads, her proposals for outreach to the community, and proposals for quarterly reports to enhance transparency and accountability.
There will be a going away party for Bolton on March 28 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Senior Center Lounge, Bangs Center, 70 Boltwood Walk. Refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Amherst Senior Center.
