Scottish/Danish Folksinger Rod Sinclair is the guest performer at the Pioneer Valley Folklore Society’s monthly song and story swap on May 3. The event will be held at First Church, 165 Main Street, at 7 p.m. Admission is free with a suggested donation of $7.50 for the artist. Free parking is available behind the church.

At song and story swaps, people of all ages and experience levels gather to share stories and songs that are
traditional, newly written, or of personal experiences. You can tell, sing, or lead everyone in singing, or request a song or story. Attendees will be invited to contribute a song or story on the topic of “Old
and New” during an opening round of sharing. Listeners are welcome.

Rod Sinclair

Rod Sinclair, from Fife, Scotland, now living in Denmark, has sung his songs and played guitar and 5-string banjo all over the world. He contributed to every Tønder Festival, from 1985-1990 as artistic director. With some of Denmark’s leading young musicians, Rod provided original music and songs for the Royal Inauguration of Denmark’s biggest national park, the Wadden Sea. He’s toured Denmark with Dick Gaughan, fiddle player Brian McNeill and with Danish guitar virtuoso Christian Alvad. Rod has toured with the heavy metal band Volbeat and performed in the Copenhagen Parken stadium in 2017 for 48,000 fans.

Among Rod Sinclair’s many albums is a collection of songs by Robert Burns, “Gammel Venskab – Robert Burns i Danmark,” from 2020.

On Rod’s latest journey to the United States, he will join occasional collaborator and Song & Story Swap host Paul Kaplan for a Northeast Tour, beginning with the May 3 Song & Story Swap.

The monthly Song & Story Swap, now in its twenty-ninth year, is sponsored by the Pioneer Valley Folklore Society of Western Massachusetts. Visit the Folklore Society website at https://pvfs.us.
