Town Police And Fire Respond To Report Of Unresponsive Women At UMass Fraternity House

On Friday, December 3, 2021,, officers of the Amherst Police Department, executed a search warrant at 20 Allen Street,  a residence that serves as  a satellite fraternity house for Alpha Epsilon Pi. The warrant application followed a response to the residence for a reported unresponsive female in need of medical attention.

During the initial response Amherst police officers along with Amherst Fire Department personnel were denied entry into the residence by numerous uncooperative college-age males.

While searching for the unresponsive female, officers observed what appeared to be an underage drinking party taking place. Officers later located the female at a nearby residence where she had been taken by party hosts of 20 Allen Street. She was later transported to Holyoke Hospital by Amherst Fire Department paramedics. Officers learned that a second female who had attended the party had been assisted on campus by UMass police officers and transported to Cooley Dickinson Hospital. 

Amherst detectives applied for, and were granted a search warrant from the Eastern Hampshire District Court in Belchertown. Upon executing the warrant, officers observed what appeared to be health and safety violations within the building. Town inspectors were notified and the building was later deemed uninhabitable; the residents were ordered to vacate the building.

Detectives were assisted in the investigation by members of the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office, the UMass police department, and the Amherst Fire Department, along with the Town of Amherst Building Inspectors. 

The incident remains under investigation.
