EVERY SUNDAY through OCTOBER 2Early Bird. Early Birding at the Notch Visitors Center. 1500 West Street. 9:00-9:30 a.m. Join a Park Interpreter on a fun beginner bird stroll. Learn about birds, their behaviors, their needs and habitats. Listen, watch, stroll, sketch or journal on this interactive program. We will do a moderate, 1/2 mile hike around the visitor center and down a short trail. More Information.

THROUGH SATURDAY AUGUST 27: Gallery A3’s Seventh Annual Juried Art Show. 28 Main Street in in the Amherst Cinema Complex. Gallery hours are Thursday-Sunday, 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Masks and social distancing are required. Gallery A3’s Seventh Annual Juried Show offers local and regional artists an opportunity to exhibit their work in an active downtown gallery and, in turn, gives the community a chance to discover artists who may be living just across town or several towns (or states) distant.
A cooperative, contemporary fine arts gallery in downtown Amherst. Current members include painters, sculptors, photographers, printmakers, and mixed media artists. An Art Forum is scheduled for Thursday, August 18, at 7:30 p.m. The juror for this year’s exhibition is Daniel Kojo Schrade, professor of art at Hampshire College. More information.

THROUGH SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 1: Exhibit: Daniel Ellsberg, A Life Of Truth. The UMass Amherst Libraries host “Daniel Ellsberg: A Life in Truth,” a physical and digital exhibit drawing from activist and truth teller Daniel Ellsberg’s vast collection of documents, photographs, and artifacts. The Robert S. Cox Special Collections and University Archives Research Center acquired the collection in 2019.The exhibit is located in two locations in the W. E. B. Du Bois Library until September 2022. It begins on Floor 25 in theReading Room of the Robert S. Cox Special Collections and University Archives Research Center (open M-F 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m.) and continues on the Lower Level in the Learning Commons (accessible whenever the Library is open). More Information.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 6:  League of Women’s Book Sale: Final Day. Fort River Elementary School Gym, 70 South East St. 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m There is ample free parking.  . The sale offers a gymnasium full of gently used books at very low prices including rare books, coffee table books, children’s books, DVDs, CDs, and Vinyl.

WEDNESDAY AUGUST 10:  Back To School COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic For Amherst Regional Public School Students 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Amherst Regional High School. The Amherst Department of Health is offering a back-to-school vaccine clinic for students attending the Amherst Regional schools on Wednesday, August 10 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the high school.  The clinic will have Moderna, Pfizer, and Johnson and Johnson vaccines for those six months of age and older. Both initial doses and boosters will be given. No appointment is necessary. Those who have been vaccinated previously should bring their vaccine card. Parental consent is necessary for those under age 18.

FRIDAY AUGUST 12: Cuppa Joe With Town Manager Paul Bockelman And Special Guest Toni Maorulis. 9:30-10:30 a.m. Black Sheep Cafe, 79 Main St. in Amherst. Join Amherst Town Manager Paul Bockelman and special guest Tony Maroulis, the Executive Director of Community & Strategic Initiatives at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, for an informal conversation. FRIDAY AUGUST 12: The Amherst Business Improvement District Free Summer Concert Series. Amherst Town Common. Concert begins at 6 p.m. and is free and open to the public. These evenings will also host local brewery White Lion Brewing for over age 21 guests. The BID encourages attendees to bring a blanket and some chairs, and enjoy the incredible offerings of our downtown’s stunning global cuisine for dine-in or takeaway to the concert. Country/Pop Rock -Rosie Porter Trio (Classic Country Singer/Songwriter) and Maxxtone (Playing the Hits – Pop Rock)

SATURDAY AUGUST 13: Community Safety Day.
10:00 a.m to 2:00 p.m.  Mill River Recreation Area, 95 Montague Rd. In collaboration with the Amherst Police, Amherst Fire, and Amherst CRESS departments, the Amherst Senior Center is putting together a Community Safety Day on Saturday, August 13th from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Mill River Recreation Area. We want to highlight how all three public safety branches are working together to support public safety, for residents of all ages. Events will include: Touch-A-Truck with the fire engine and cruisers, a k9 demo, fire safety demos, Jaws of Life presentation, car/car seat inspections, and more. We’ll have representatives from the DA’s office to talk about consumer safety/scam prevention as well as representatives from the Sheriff’s Department. There will also be performances from Tom Knight, Roger Tincknell, and Aimee Salmon. The food truck for the event will be Holyoke Hummus. The event is free and open to the public. The State Primary is on Tuesday, September 6th 2022. Polls will be open on this day from 7:00 AM – 8:00 PM. In-person early voting will also be available at Amherst Town Hall. See above for details.  More Information here and here.

MONDAY SEPTEMBER 12: Amherst Neighbors Member Appreciation Picnic. Mill River Recreation Area, Mill River Pavilion, 95 Montague Rd., North Amherst. 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. This event was rescheduled from July 18. Amherst Neighbors, providing neighbor to neighbor support for aging well in the Amherst-Pelham communities, is holding its first in-person, outdoor event. Join us for a festive picnic, good food, fun and games, and a chance to meet and celebrate our members, volunteers, and potential members.  Some food foundations and beverages will be provided. Please bring a dish to share, if you can.  Registration encouraged but not required on our website www.amherstneighbors.org or call 413-345-2555.

SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 24: Annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day. Preregistration required! Fort River Elementary School (70 South East Street, Amherst). All Amherst, Pelham, Shutesbury and Hadley residents may participate.  Advance registration prior to   is required.  Participation is limited; people are encouraged to register early to ensure an appointment time. Pre-register on-line by visiting www.amherstma.gov/recycling.   For those without computer access, paper registration forms will be available at the Amherst Transfer Station. Registrants will receive an assigned appointment window between 9am and 12pm a few days prior to the event.
