Around 20 people gathered on a Zoom call and at New Africa House at UMass on October 9 to attend a Know Rights Training presented by the Boston nonprofit Citizens for Juvenile Justice. The training covered important aspects of the law such as Miranda Rights, the Interested Adult Rule, how to interact with police in an interrogation, searches and seizures, and what to do in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts if your rights have been violated. A summary of the topics covered can be found here and also below. Attending the training were local high school students as well as parents and guardians who also participated actively in the training and contributed to a robust conversation following the initial presentation. Also attending were representatives from the various groups that helped promote the training, including Sunrise Amherst, the Amherst High School Chapter of People of Color United, the Progressive Coalition of Amherst, the Amherst Human Rights Coalition, and the Amherst Community Safety and Social Justice Committee.

The training was recorded.
