Photo of the Week: Jeffery Amherst Bookstore Is No More by Rob Kusner and Ira Bryck
Photos of the recent demolition of the Jeffery Amherst Bookstore Building to make way for a new student apartment building.
Our feature, Photo of the Week, presents each week, a new picture by a local photographer. We invite local photographers to share their photographs here. Please include a description/caption and an indication of who is to be credited.
Do we need to split the prize money?!
The reward is the work itself — happy to split that with you! 😉
By the way, Art edited my original caption, which was
The Jeffrey Amherst Bookstore is no more, no more, no more, no more….
alluding vaguely to the chorus line of “Hit the Road, Jack” by Ray Charles, whose tune came to mind as I viewed the scene before me from Spring Street.
It was also inspiring to see the mature trees peeking between the remaining buildings, which made me wonder if Barry Roberts might have also noticed this feature, since the design of his new building would connect the street space better to the back space there, the ground floor of which might make a great spot for a reading-room or bookstore, perhaps like this iconic one in San Francisco:

Maybe that’s a project Ira and Rob and Barry and … might collaborate on?!?!?!?
