School Superintendent E. Xiomara Herman issued the following statement on February 25, 2025, in response to the conclusion of an investigation of anonymous accusations against her.

When I stepped into this role, I did so with an unwavering commitment to collaboration, accountability, and ensuring that our schools prioritize student success and well-being. From day one, I have approached this work with transparency, openness, and a deep respect for the diverse voices that shape our district. The recent conclusion of the investigation affirms my dedication to integrity and the vital work we do as educators. While the findings confirm that the claims were unsubstantiated, this experience has been an opportunity for self-reflection—an essential practice in leadership.

True leadership demands the humility to recognize areas for growth and the resilience to learn from every experience, even the most challenging ones. While I will not be swayed by false claims, I understand that leadership carries the responsibility to reflect—not only on how circumstances arise but also on how we can move forward stronger. As professionals, we are constantly learning, evolving, and refining how we communicate, collaborate, and lead.

I have always believed that open dialogue is critical to progress. My door remains open for meaningful conversations that foster understanding, growth, and collective success. If I have unintentionally caused harm, I welcome the opportunity for restorative discussions. It deeply saddens me that some felt compelled to take drastic measures rather than engaging in direct, professional communication. This only reinforces the need to strengthen a culture where trust, honesty, and transparency guide our interactions.

To create a district where students feel safe, valued, and supported, we must ensure that the adults within our schools operate in an environment of trust and respect. Healing and stabilization require a commitment to professionalism, integrity, and the courage to address differences constructively.

Our district priorities remain steadfast:

  • Student Safety and Well-being – Every child deserves a learning environment where they feel safe, respected, and empowered to succeed.
  • Healing and Stabilization of the District – Trust is a two-way street, and relationships are at the core of our ability to work effectively as a community. We must move forward together with mutual respect and an understanding of how we build a stronger foundation.
  • Data and Accountability for Equity – We must make equitable decisions that reflect transparency, fairness, and a commitment to serving all students effectively.

Moving forward, my commitment remains to fostering a district culture that prioritizes professionalism, respectful engagement, and accountability. Differences will arise, but how we approach them will define our district’s strength. It is my hope that we can build an environment where concerns are addressed through direct communication, where trust is actively cultivated, and where the shared focus remains on what truly matters—our students.

I will continue to uphold a culture of accountability, ensuring that every action we take is rooted in what is best for our students. Leadership requires fairness, consistency, and the ability to make difficult decisions with integrity. While I will not engage in retaliatory actions, I firmly believe in holding myself and others accountable for our roles in supporting student well-being. True leadership is also about responsibility—built on honesty, transparency, and an unwavering commitment to student success.

With the resolution of this matter, I look forward to moving ahead together in a professional and unified manner. Healing requires deliberate action—strengthening communication, rebuilding trust, and ensuring that our focus remains on what matters most: our students.

As Maya Angelou wisely said, “Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.” This experience has reinforced my dedication to leading with integrity, fostering open communication, and strengthening the Amherst, Pelham, and Amherst-Pelham Regional Public School districts, so that every child we serve has the opportunity to thrive.
